Here’s what turned out to be a quick experiment to see if the Personal Salon Home Nail Care System could handle something a little more aggressive than every day life.
I extended one nail, went to the rock climbing gym, and climbed for about an hour. Flailing around on the walls, I probably banged my nail into a hold or a concrete wall about twenty times.
As you can see in the pictures below, the nail held up beautifully!
(Haha… The chalk even got under the nail and made it look a little like a French Tip!)
So, here’s the whole story, which admittedly, this post may be a bit strange. You see, though my long hair often gets me mistaken for one, I’m not a woman. However I’m helping a friend come to market with a brand new nail care product, in which the technology took him seven years to develop. He’s been in the nail industry for years. I’m just learning about it.
So, the other day I realized that I was helping to promote a product which I understood all the great features, but hadn’t yet tried a few of them for myself. Specifically, I hadn’t tried to extend a nail by sculpting my own extension. Therefore, in order to believe what I’m saying, I realized I needed to understand a little better what it is like for our users to apply and wear our product.
So I grabbed a kit and tried slapping on a couple nail extensions. It was pretty easy, just as I had been telling people (shwew!)
On the first try, I was a bit nervous and unsure of what to do. I put the instructions and documentation up on the website, but I hadn’t actually physically tried all of it. … but who reads that stuff anyway ;P
So I was a bit unsure as I did each step and I noticed that I kept asking myself, “Is this right?”. But all it it took was that first try and I saw what needed to be done.
So, I had the confidence to switch to my opposite hand.
In the pictures above, you’ll see that the nail I tested was on my right hand, which means I applied it with my left. I’m right-handed and not extremely ambidextrous, but I didn’t need to be. Like we say in the documentation, I just had to push the Overlay around on the nail and it self-leveled beautifully. I bonded, shaped and realized that I had quickly extended a nail.
It didn’t look complete, I would need to add nail polish or apply a French tip so it would look more natural. But wanting to keep some of my masculinity, and since it was the end of the work day, I figured I was done.
Well, that was simple.
Then I realized I really wanted to go climb and work out.
I’m a rock climber. I moved to Nevada, in part, so I could spend a lot of time in the Red Rock Canyons rock climbing.
It was too late (dark) to go out to the mountains, so I went to the gym and figured I’d take a few pictures to see how the nail would hold up.
Hence this impromptu experiment, which turned out to have great results!
Maybe soon, I will put on a full set and head to the mountains to see two things:
- How much my friends can laugh at me
- How a full set holds up on a full day of climbing
But for now, I’m much more satisfied that I can believe in the product I’m trying to get my friends to learn more about.
